The Vendee is
a department (county) of France on the west coast with 160 kms of mostly
sandy beaches.
It takes its name from the river Vendee which runs through the
south eastern part of the department, entering into the Niortaise Sevre before
entering the Atlantic ocean.
The population of the Vendee was 559,888 in
2004 and has a land surface of 6720km˛
